Tumor Necrosis Factor Receptor Superfamily Member 5 - CISMeF
Tumor Necrosis Factor Receptor Superfamily Member 5NCIt concept
Preferred Label : Tumor Necrosis Factor Receptor Superfamily Member 5;
NCIt synonyms : B Cell-Associated Molecule CD40; TNFRSF5; CD40 Type II Isoform; CD40 Antigen; CD40; Nerve Growth Factor Receptor-Related B-Lymphocyte Activation Molecule; CD40L Receptor; CDw40; B Cell Surface Antigen CD40;
NCIt definition : Tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member 5 (277 aa, 31 kDa) is encoded by
the human CD40 gene. This protein is involved in the positive regulation of immunoglobulin
secretion.;
NCIt note : Related to NGFR, TNFR-alpha, and CD27, CD40 is a 50 kD glycophosphoprotein homodimer
expressed on mature B-cells, but not on plasma cells, that plays an important role
in B-cell development and activation. These CD40 homologies imply that its ligand
may be a soluble factor and that CD40 is a member of the cytokine receptor family.
CD40/CD40-ligand interactions play a critical role in the activation of humoral and
cell-mediated immune responses. CD40-dependent activation of B-cells is important
for generation of memory B-cells within germinal centers. (OMIM);
