CISMeF synonym : CD40LG; CD154;

NCIt related terms : CD40-ligand;

NCIt definition : CD40 ligand (261 aa, 29 kDa) is encoded by the human CD40LG gene. This protein is involved in both binding to CD40 and the modulation of B-cell function.;

Alternative definition : NCI-GLOSS: A substance that is being studied in the treatment of cancer. It binds to certain immune cells and may suppress cancer growth.;

NCIt note : Cell surface marker TRAP (CD40 ligand) is a member of the TNF family and a type II membrane glycoprotein on T-cells, but absent from B-cells and monocytes. It is expressed on both CD4- and CD8-positive T-cells. IL4, an inducer of IgE, up regulates TRAP while gamma-interferon, an inhibitor of IgE, reduces TRAP expression. CD40 is a glycoprotein expressed on B-lymphocytes, epithelial cells, and some carcinoma cells. Activation of CD40 mediates B-cell proliferation, adhesion, and differentiation. TRAP mutation causes X-linked hyper-IgM syndrome (hypergammaglobulinemia). (from OMIM 308230 and NCI);
