Preferred Label : Cell Division Control Protein 42 Homolog;
NCIt synonyms : Cell Division Cycle 42 (GTP Binding Protein, 25kD); CDC42 Homolog; Cell Division Cycle 42 Protein; GTP-Binding Protein, 25-kD; G25K GTP-Binding Protein; CDC42 Protein; CDC42; GP; Cell Division Cycle-42 Protein;
NCIt definition : Cell division control protein 42 homolog (191 aa, 21 kDa) is encoded by the human
CDC42 gene. This protein is involved in cell cycle regulation, actin polymerization
and GTP hydrolysis.;
NCIt note : Cell Division Cycle 42, encoded by the CDC42 gene, is a small GTPase of the Rho-subfamily.
This protein regulates signaling pathways that control diverse cellular functions,
including cell morphology, migration, endocytosis and cell cycle progression, and
the induction of malignant transformation. ACK1 is a binding partner and inhibitor
of the GTP-bound form of CDC42. Interaction between GTP-CDC42 and ACK1 inhibits both
the intrinsic and GAP-stimulated GTPase activity of CDC42. The product of oncogene
Dbl specifically catalyzes the dissociation of GDP from CDC42. This protein regulates
actin polymerization through its direct binding to Neural Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome
protein (N-WASP), which subsequently activates Arp2/3 complex. Alternative splicing
of the CDC42 gene results in the placental and brain isoforms. (LocusLink, OMIM);
