Baculoviral IAP Repeat-Containing Protein 7 - CISMeF
Baculoviral IAP Repeat-Containing Protein 7NCIt concept
Preferred Label : Baculoviral IAP Repeat-Containing Protein 7;
NCIt synonyms : Kidney Inhibitor of Apoptosis; Melanoma Inhibitor of Apoptosis Protein; Melanoma Inhibitor of Apoptosis; RING Finger Protein 50; BIRC7; Livin; ML-IAP; Kidney Inhibitor of Apoptosis Protein; KIAP;
NCIt definition : Baculoviral IAP repeat-containing protein 7 (298 aa, 33 kDa) is encoded by the human
BIRC7 gene. This protein plays a role in both signal transduction and the inhibition
of apoptosis.;
NCIt note : Encoded by BIRC7 Gene, Livin is a potent anti-apoptotic protein and caspase inhibitor
with pleiotropic effects on apoptosis induced by various stimuli. BIRC7 anti-apoptotic
activity is achieved by two mechanisms: TAK1-dependent JNK1 activation and caspase
inhibition. Induced by a death stimulus, processed and activated SMAC interacts with
the BIRC7 BIR (baculovirus IAP repeat) domain to abrogate BIRC7 inhibition of apoptosis.
Alpha and beta BIRC7 splice variants have different biological properties and tissue
distribution, though both have a significant anti-apoptotic activity. (NCI);
