NCIt definition : P-selectin (830 aa, 91 kDa) is encoded by the human SELP gene. This protein plays
a role in leukocyte adhesion to myeloid cells, endothelial cells or platelets.;
NCIt note : P-Selectin is a cell surface adhesion molecule that mediates the interaction of activated
endothelial cells or platelets with neutrophils and monocytes. The protein is detected
in megakaryocytes and platelets, as well as in vascular endothelial cells, but not
in other cell types. In endothelia, the protein is localized to the membranes of Weibel-Palade
bodies, intracellular storage granules for von Willebrand factor. CD24 is a ligand
for P-selectin. Sorting nexin-17 interacts with the cytosolic domain of P-selectin
and may function in the intracellular trafficking of P-selectin.;
