NCIt definition : Human CDK4 wild-type allele is located within 12q14 and is approximately 4 kb in length.
This allele, which encodes cyclin-dependent kinase 4 protein, is involved in the regulation
of cell cycle progression from G1/S phase. Variant mutated alleles are associated
with tumorigenesis for a variety of cancers.;
NCIt note : CDK4 was cloned for the study of hereditary melanoma. CDC37 and HSP90 enhance CDK4
stability. Cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor-2 (p16) inhibits CDK4. Mutations in this
gene as well as in its related proteins including D-type cyclins, p16(INK4a) and Rb
were all found to be associated with tumorigenesis of a variety of cancers. In addition,
multiple polyadenylation sites of this gene have been reported.;
