Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 6 - CISMeF
Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 6NCIt concept
Preferred Label : Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 6;
NCIt synonyms : Transcription Factor IL-4 STAT; STAT6; IL-4 Stat; Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription-6;
NCIt definition : Signal transducer and activator of transcription 6 (847 aa, 94 kDa) is encoded by
the human STAT6 gene. This protein is involved in the modulation of both gene expression
and signal transduction.;
NCIt note : This protein plays a central role in exerting IL4 mediated biological responses. It
is found to induce the expression of BCL2L1/BCL-X(L), which is responsible for the
anti-apoptotic activity of IL4. Knockout studies in mice suggested the roles of this
protein in differentiation of T helper 2 (Th2) cells, expression of cell surface markers,
and class switch of immunoglobulins. (LocusLink);
