" /> Apoptosis-Inducing Factor 1, Mitochondrial - CISMeF

Preferred Label : Apoptosis-Inducing Factor 1, Mitochondrial;

NCIt synonyms : Apoptosis-Inducing Factor 1; Testicular Secretory Protein Li 4; Striatal Apoptosis-Inducing Factor; EC 1.6.99.-; AIF; AIFM1; Programmed Cell Death Protein 8;

NCIt definition : Apoptosis-inducing factor 1, mitochondrial (613 aa, 67 kDa) is encoded by the human AIFM1 gene. This protein plays a role in oxidation/reduction of NADH and nuclear disassembly in apoptotic cells.;

NCIt note : Apoptosis-inducing factor 1, mitochondrial (AIF) undergoes proteolytic processing following translocation into the mitochondrial intermembrane space, which results in the formation of an inner-membrane-anchored mature form (AIFmit). In response to apoptotic stimuli, AIFmit is further proteolytically processed into a soluble form (AIFsol), which migrates from the mitochondrion to the cytosol and translocates into the nucleus, where it functions as a proapoptotic factor in a caspase-independent pathway.
