NCIt definition : Human IRAK1 wild-type allele is located within Xq28 and is approximately 9 kb in length.
This allele, which encodes interleukin-1 receptor-associated kinase 1 protein, is
involved both in interleukin-1-induced up-regulation of the transcription factor NF-kappa
B and in regulation of responsiveness to bacterial endotoxins.;
NCIt note : The IRAK1 gene has been shown to produce a splice variant, IRAK1c, which lacks a region
of exon 11 typically encoded by the gene. The resulting protein lacks kinase activity,
cannot be phosphorylated and yet retains the protein binding ability of the major
isoform. Overexpression of IRAK1c suppresses activation of NF-kappa B and blocks both
IL-6 and TNF-alpha production.;
