NCIt definition : DNA replication licensing factor MCM2 (904 aa, 102 kDa) is encoded by the human MCM2
gene. This protein plays a role in cell cycle regulation.;
NCIt note : MCM4, MCM6, and MCM7 form a stable complex with which MCM2 is loosely associated.
The presence of MCM2 disturbs the assembly of MCM4, MCM6, and MCM7 proteins to inhibit
the DNA helicase activity. Through specific binding of MCM2 with histone H3, the complex
binds chromatin. Phosphorylation of MCM2 and MCM3 in the MCM complex by the CDC7L1
kinase complex converts the inactive MCM complex into an active helicase.;
