NCIt definition : Latent membrane protein 2 (497 aa, 53 kDa) is encoded by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)
LMP2 gene. This protein is involved in maintaining latent infection by EBV in B-lymphocytes.;
NCIt note : The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) LMP2 gene can yield two transcripts, LMP2A and LMP2B,
which result from alternative promoter usage. The two mRNA differ only in the sequences
derived from the first exon. LMP2A is the canonical isoform and its role in viral
latency is well established. The role of LMP2B in EBV infection is not clear. (UniProt);
