Apoptotic signals activate BH3-molecules such as tBID, BIM, or BAD, which displace VDAC2 from BAK, enabling BAK homooligomerization and apoptosis. VDAC2 is also the mitochondrial binding site of metabolic enzymes hexokinase and glycerol kinase.;
