Voltage-Dependent Anion-Selective Channel Protein 1 - CISMeF
Voltage-Dependent Anion-Selective Channel Protein 1NCIt concept
Preferred Label : Voltage-Dependent Anion-Selective Channel Protein 1;
NCIt synonyms : Porin 31HL; Voltage-Dependent Anion-Selective Channel Protein-1; Outer Mitochondrial Membrane Protein Porin-1; Porin; VDAC-1; hVDAC1; Porin 31HM; Plasmalemmal Porin; Voltage-Dependent Anion Channel-1; Outer Mitochondrial Membrane Protein Porin 1;
NCIt definition : Voltage-dependent anion-selective channel protein 1 (283 aa, 31 kDa) is encoded by
the human VDAC1 gene. This protein plays a role in the regulation of cell volume,
the modulation of apoptosis and the permeability of the outer mitochondrial membrane.;
NCIt note : In response to apoptotic signal transduction, BCL2 proteins regulate cell death by
controlling mitochondrial membrane permeability during apoptosis; BCLXL binds to and
closes voltage-dependent anion-selective channel protein 1 (VDAC). Proapoptotic BAX
and BAK accelerate VDAC opening, allowing cytochrome C to pass through VDAC, which
activates death-driving proteolytic caspases.;
