NCIt definition : G2/mitotic-specific cyclin-B2 (398 aa, 45 kDa) is encoded by the human CCNB2 gene.
This protein plays a role in the regulation of the progression of the cell cycle from
G2 to mitosis.;
NCIt note : Cyclin B2 interacts with the CDC2 protein kinase to form a serine/threonine kinase
holoenzyme complex, activating and imparting substrate specificity to the complex.
Cyclin B2 also binds to transforming growth factor beta RII and thus cyclin B2/CDC2
may play a key role in transforming growth factor beta-mediated cell cycle control.
Cyclin B2 accumulates steadily during G2 and is abruptly destroyed at mitosis. Overexpression
of cyclins B, resulting from different mechanisms, could contribute, through an alteration
of the spindle checkpoint, to the chromosomal instability observed in cancer.;
