" /> Bcl-2-Interacting Killer - CISMeF

Preferred Label : Bcl-2-Interacting Killer;

NCIt synonyms : BCL2-Interacting Killer; BP4; Apoptosis-Inducing NBK; BIK; BIP1; BCL2-Interacting Killer Protein;

NCIt definition : Bcl-2-interacting killer (160 aa, 18 kDa) is encoded by the human BIK gene. This protein plays a role in apoptosis.;

NCIt note : This protein is known to interact with cellular and viral survival-promoting proteins, such as BCL2, BCLXL, Epstein-Barr virus BHRF1, and adenovirus E1B 19-kD in order to enhance programed cell death. Because its activity is suppressed in the presence of survival-promoting proteins, this protein is suggested as a likely target for antiapoptotic proteins. This protein shares a critical BH3 domain with other death-promoting proteins, BAX and BAK. (from RefSeq Summary and OMIM);
