" /> Apolipoprotein(a) - CISMeF

Preferred Label : Apolipoprotein(a);

NCIt synonyms : Lp(a); Apo(a); EC 3.4.21.-; LPA; Antiangiogenic AK38 Protein;

NCIt definition : Apolipoprotein(a) (4548 aa, 501 kDa) is encoded by the human LPA gene. This protein is involved in the regulation of thrombosis and lipid metabolism.;

NCIt note : Lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)) is formed by the disulfide linkage of apolipoprotein B100 (APOB) of a low-density lipoprotein particle to apolipoprotein(a). (OMIM); Apolipoprotein(a) (apo(a)) is proteolytically cleaved, to form mini-Lp(a). These apo(a) fragments may accumulate in atherosclerotic lesions and promote thrombogenesis. O-glycosylation of apo(a) may limit proteolytic fragmentation. The shared homology of mini-Lp(a) with plasminogen kringles IV and V is thought to underlie the atherogenicity of the protein, as the fragments may compete with plasminogen for fibrin(ogen) binding.
