" /> Eukaryotic Translation Initiation Factor 2-Alpha Kinase 1 - CISMeF

Preferred Label : Eukaryotic Translation Initiation Factor 2-Alpha Kinase 1;

NCIt synonyms : Heme-Regulated Inhibitor; Hemin-Sensitive Initiation Factor 2-Alpha Kinase; Heme-Regulated Initiation Factor 2 Alpha Kinase; Heme-Controlled Repressor; HCR; Heme-Regulated Initiation Factor 2-Alpha Kinase; EC 2.7.11.1; Heme-Regulated Eukaryotic Initiation Factor eIF-2-Alpha Kinase; EIF2AK1;

NCIt definition : Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2-alpha kinase 1 (630 aa, 71 kDa) is encoded by the human EIF2AK1 gene. This protein plays a role in both the inhibition of protein synthesis and serine/threonine phosphorylation.;

NCIt note : The enzymatic activity of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2-alpha kinase 1 protein is regulated by heme levels. The presence of heme inhibits the activity of this protein whereas low heme levels cause induction of activity.;
