NCIt definition : N-lysine methyltransferase KMT5A (393aa, 43 kDa) is encoded by the human KMT5A gene. This protein plays a role in the methylation of histones and other proteins.;

NCIt note : N-lysine methyltransferase KMT5A specifically monomethylates the lysine at amino acid residue 20 of histone H4 (H4K20me1) and the lysine at amino acid residue 382 of cellular tumor antigen p53 (p53K382). H4K20me1 is enriched during mitosis and is a biomarker for epigenetic transcriptional repression. p53K382 leads to the repression of p53-dependent gene expression.;
