NCIt definition : Human MCL1 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 1q21 and is less than 1 kb in length. This allele, which encodes induced myeloid leukemia cell differentiation protein Mcl-1, plays a regulatory role in apoptosis.;

NCIt note : MCL1 encodes a protein that belongs to the Bcl-2 family. Alternative splicing occurs at this locus and two transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified. The longer gene product (isoform 1) promotes cell survival by inhibiting apoptosis while the alternatively spliced shorter gene product (isoform 2) promotes apoptosis and is death-inducing.;
