" /> Ubiquitin Carboxyl-Terminal Hydrolase BAP1 - CISMeF

Preferred Label : Ubiquitin Carboxyl-Terminal Hydrolase BAP1;

NCIt synonyms : Cerebral Protein-6; BRCA1 Associated Protein-1; BAP1; Cerebral Protein-13; EC 3.4.19.12; BRCA1-Associated Protein 1; Cerebral Protein 6;

NCIt definition : Ubiquitin carboxyl-terminal hydrolase BAP1 (729 aa, 80 kDa) is encoded by the human BAP1 gene. This protein plays a role in both the negative regulation of cell proliferation and the deubiquitination of histones.;

NCIt note : Encoded by the ubiquitously expressed human BAP1 Gene. The 729-amino acid nuclear BRCA1 Associated Protein-1 contains an acidic region, a highly charged C- terminus, and putative nuclear localization signals. The N-terminus shows homology to ubiquitin C-terminal hydrolases, thiol proteases that catalyze ubiquitin proteolytic processing. BAP1 interacts with the BRCA1 RING finger, but this interaction is prevented by RING finger germline mutations of BRCA1 found in breast cancer kindreds. BAP1 enhances BRCA1-mediated inhibition of breast cancer cell growth, acting as a tumor suppressor in the BRCA1 growth control pathway. (from OMIM);
