This protein is involved in the induction of smooth muscle contraction, the regulation of vascular permeability and the degranulation of both mast cells and basophils and the modulation of pathogen phagocytosis by neutrophils and monocytes.;

NCIt note : C5a anaphylatoxin is comprised of amino acids 678-751 of complement C5 and is produced through proteolysis of complement C5 into an alpha chain and a beta chain followed by further proteolysis of the complement C5 alpha chain. (UniProt);
