NCIt definition : Betacellulin (80 aa, 9 kDa) is encoded by the human BTC gene. This protein is involved
in epidermal growth factor receptor family signaling pathways.;
NCIt note : The active form of the growth factor, called betacellulin, is produced by proteolytic
cleavage that removes 67 amino acids from the C-terminus of probetacellulin. The precursor
is a type I membrane protein and the mature form is a secreted protein. (UniProt); Betacellulin is a member of the EGF family of growth factors and a potent mitogen
for retinal pigment epithelia and vascular smooth muscle cells. Betacellulin effects
are mediated by the EGF receptor and related receptors. (UniProt);
