Preferred Label : Beta-Hexosaminidase Subunit Beta;

NCIt synonyms : Epididymis Luminal Protein 248; Hexosaminidase Subunit B; N-Acetyl-Beta-Glucosaminidase Subunit Beta; HCC-7; EC 3.2.1.52; Beta-Hexosaminidase Beta-Subunit; Beta-N-Acetylhexosaminidase Subunit Beta; Hexosaminidase Subunit Beta; Epididymis Secretory Protein Li 111; HEXB; Cervical Cancer Proto-Oncogene 7 Protein;

NCIt definition : Beta-hexosaminidase subunit beta (556 aa, 63 kDa) is encoded by the human HEXB gene. This protein plays a role in 3-beta hexosaminidase activity targeting neutral glycans.;

NCIt note : Beta-hexosaminidase subunit beta (HEXB) is present in two beta-hexosaminidase isozymes. They are: beta-hexosaminidase isozyme A, which is a heterodimer composed of one copy of beta-hexosaminidase subunit alpha and one beta subunit (HEXB), and beta-hexosaminidase isozyme B, which is a homodimer of two copies of HEXB. The hydrolysis of GM2 gangliosides by beta-hexosaminidase isozyme A is dependent on the presence of GM2 activator protein.; Beta-hexosaminidase subunit beta is synthesized as a single chain that is proteolytically processed to a two chain molecule comprised of a C-terminal beta-A chain and an N-terminal beta-B chain. The beta-A and beta-B chains are connected by interchain disulfide bonds.;
