NCIt definition : DNA topoisomerase 3-alpha (1001 aa, 112 kDa) is encoded by the human TOP3A gene. This protein is involved in the relaxation of supercoiled DNA.;

NCIt note : Topoisomerase III alpha is involved in rDNA metabolism, such as rDNA transcription. It exhibits homology to the Escherichia coli DNA topoisomerase I subfamily of enzymes and shares no significant sequence homology with eukaryotic DNA topoisomerase I. Topo III-alpha interacts with the N-terminus of BLM and is recruited to PML nuclear bodies. Evidence suggest that the BLM/TOP3A complex may be involved in the regulation of recombination between sister chromatids in somatic cells. (from OMIM);
