NCIt definition : C3a anaphylatoxin (77 aa, 9 kDa) is encoded by the human C3 gene. This protein is
involved in T-cell activation and survival, promotion of angiogenesis, chemotaxis,
mast cell degranulation, macrophage activation and binding to complement component
3a receptor 1 (C3AR1).;
NCIt note : C3a is rapidly cleaved by either carboxypeptidase B or N, which remove the carboxyl-terminal
arginine to generate acylation stimulating protein (ASP or C3adesArg).; C3a anaphylatoxin is comprised of amino acids 672-748 of complement C3 and is produced
through proteolysis of complement C3 into a C-terminal alpha chain and a N-terminal
beta chain followed by further proteolysis of the complement C3 alpha chain. (UniProt);
