NCIt definition : Protein O-GlcNAcase (916 aa, 103 kDa) is encoded by the human OGA gene. This protein
plays a role in the hydrolysis of O-linkages between N-acetylglucosamine (GlcNAc)
and serine or threonine protein residues.;
NCIt note : Caution from UniProt: The mouse and rat orthologs of protein O-GlcNAcase were initially
identified as bi-functional proteins containing an N-terminal O-GlcNAcase domain and
a C-terminal histone acetyltransferase domain. However, the residues for acetyl-CoA
binding are not conserved in mammals. Additionally, the human protein does not bind
acetyl-CoA nor does it possess histone acetyltranferase activity.;
