Preferred Label : CLDN18 wt Allele;

NCIt synonyms : SFTA5; SFTPJ; Claudin 18 wt Allele; UNQ778/PRO1572; Surfactant Associated 5 Gene; Surfactant, Pulmonary Associated Protein J Gene;

NCIt definition : Human CLDN18 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 3q22.3 and is approximately 35 kb in length. This allele, which encodes claudin-18 protein, is involved in tight junction assembly. Aberrant expression may be associated with gastric, pancreatic, esophageal, ovarian and lung neoplasms.;

NCIt note : The human CLDN18 gene has 2 alternate first exons, 1a and 1b. Both exons contain translational start codons that are spliced with common exons 2 through 5 to encode functional proteins. Exon 1a is preferentially expressed in the lung. Exon 1b is expressed in epithelial cells in the gastric mucosa and is aberrantly expressed in malignancies of the stomach, pancreas, esophagus, ovary and lung. (Clin Cancer Res 2008;14:7624-7634);
