properties. As a pyrimidine inhibitor of bacterial dihydrofolate reductase, trimethoprim
binds tightly to the bacterial enzyme, blocking the production of tetrahydrofolic
acid from dihydrofolic acid. The antibacterial activity of this agent is potentiated
