The protein has been implicated in tumor pathogenesis and formation in several cancers, including retinoblastoma, hemangioma, and glioblastoma phenotypes. Additionally, the protein has been used as a marker to distinguish cells that have the potential to become cancerous from the larger normal cell population.;
