NCIt definition : Human CDK11B wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 1p36.33 and is approximately
31 kb in length. This allele, which encodes cyclin-dependent kinase 11B protein, plays
a role in proliferation regulation, apoptosis and is essential for eukaryotic cell
cycle control. The allele is deleted or altered frequently in neuroblastoma with amplified
MYCN genes.;
NCIt note : CDK11B is expressed ubiquitously and acts as a negative regulator of the normal cell
cycle progression. It may function in regulating proliferation by phosphorylation
and subsequent plasma membrane targeting of galactosyltransferase. The gene can also
be cleaved by caspases and play roles in cell apoptosis. A large number of alternatively
spliced variants of this gene exist.; CDK11A and CDK11B encode almost identical proteins. (UniProt);
