" /> Thymidine Kinase, Mitochondrial - CISMeF

Preferred Label : Thymidine Kinase, Mitochondrial;

NCIt synonyms : Mt-TK; TK2; Mitochondrial Thymidine Kinase 2; Thymidine Kinase-2; EC 2.7.1.21; Thymidine Kinase 2;

NCIt definition : Thymidine kinase 2, mitochondrial (265 aa, 31 kDa) is encoded by the human TK2 gene. This protein is involved in mitochondrial pyrimidine metabolism.;

NCIt note : mtDNA synthesis depends on 2 salvage pathway deoxyribonucleoside kinases, DGK and TK2. Separated from cytosolic dNTPs by the mitochondria inner membrane, mitochondrial dNTPs are maintained by transporter import or deoxynucleoside salvaging; de novo dNTP synthetic enzymes appear not to be present in mitochondria.;
