NCIt definition : Human ADH5 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 4q23 and is approximately 18 kb in length. This allele, which encodes alcohol dehydrogenase class-3 protein, is involved in the oxidation of the formaldehyde adduct S-(hydroxymethyl) glutathione and in the metabolism of long-chain primary alcohols and long chain omega-hydroxy fatty acids. Mutations in the gene are associated with digenic AMED syndrome.;
