Preferred Label : MHC Class II Protein;

NCIt synonyms : Class II MHC Protein; Histocompatibility Antigen, Class II; MHC Class II Molecule; Major Histocompatibility Complex Class II; MHC Class-II Protein; Human Leukocyte Antigen;

NCIt related terms : human lymphocyte antigen; HLA; HLA CLASS II ANTIGENS;

NCIt definition : MHC Class-II Proteins are non-covalently linked polymorphic alpha/beta transmembrane glycoproteins. The immunological function of MHC Class-II proteins is to bind and present antigenic peptides on the surfaces of cells for recognition by the antigen-specific T cell receptors of lymphocytes. These proteins plays an important role in the mediation of immune response.;

Alternative definition : NCI-GLOSS: One of a group of proteins found on the surface of white blood cells and other cells that play an important part in the body's immune response to foreign substances. These antigens vary from person to person, and human leukocyte antigen tests are done before organ transplantation to find out if tissues match between a donor and a recipient.; CDISC: A group of human leukocyte antigens that are typically expressed on professional antigen-presenting cells, and consist mainly of (but are not limited to) HLA-DR, HLA-DP and HLA-DQ.;
