Preferred Label : Integral Membrane Protein 2B;

NCIt synonyms : Immature BRI2; ITM2B; Transmembrane Protein BRI; Protein E25B; Bri; imBRI2;

NCIt definition : Integral membrane protein 2B (266 aa, 30 kDa) is encoded by the human ITM2B gene. This protein is involved in steric hinderance of amyloid-beta precursor protein cleavage by both beta- and gamma-secretases.;

NCIt note : Integral membrane protein 2B (immature BRI2; imBRI2) is cleaved by furin producing a secreted Bri23 peptide (Bri2-23; ABri23; C-terminal peptide; P23 peptide) and a mature membrane bound form, called BRI2, membrane form (mature BRI2; mBRI2). The remaining part of the ectodomain of mBRI2 can be cleaved by ADAM10 yielding a secreted form, called BRI2C, soluble form. The membrane-bound N-terminal fragment (BRI2, membrane form) is further proteolytically processed by signal peptide peptidase-like 2A and 2B through regulated intramembrane proteolysis producing a secreted C-peptide and releases BRI2 intracellular domain (BRI2 ICD) into the cytosol.
