NCIt definition : Human ACHE wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 7q22.1 and is approximately
7 kb in length. This allele, which encodes acetylcholinesterase protein, is involved
in neuronal apoptosis, Cartwright (Yt) blood group antigen composition and acetylcholine
catabolism.;
NCIt note : The ACHE gene is transcribed into at least 4 transcripts generated by 3-prime alternative
splicing. All transcripts contain exons 1 through 4. Three of the transcripts are
well characterized: tailed ACHE (ACHE-T; synaptic ACHE; ACHE-S), which includes exon
6 and is most frequently expressed in brain and muscle cells, hydrophobic ACHE (ACHE-H;
erythrocytic ACHE; ACHE-E), which includes exon 5 and is expressed in erythrocytes,
and readthrough ACHE (read-through ACHE; ACHE-R) includes intron 4 and exon 5.;
