NMT2 and induced protein myristoyltransferase activity are direct responses to carcinogen exposure. Because inappropriate protein NH(2)-terminal myristoylation appears to play a role in carcinogenesis, induction of NMT2 may play a central role in dioxin carcinogenicity.
