NCIt definition : A subfamily of the aldehyde dehydrogenase enzyme family that plays a role in the detoxification
of alcohol-derived acetaldehyde and in the metabolism of corticosteroids, biogenic
amines and neurotransmitters. Aberrant expression of these enzymes has been characterized
in many cancer cell types and in cancer stem cells, where they may promote both cell
survival and treatment resistance.;
NCIt note : The ALDH3 family includes proteins encoded by the human ALDH3A1, ALDH3A2, ALDH3B1
and ALDH3B2 genes.;
