NCIt definition : Deoxyuridine 5'-triphosphate nucleotidohydrolase, mitochondrial (252 aa, 27 kDa)
is encoded by the human DUT gene. This protein is involved in uracil and thymidine
metabolism.;
NCIt note : DUT encodes a mitochondrial form (DUT-M) and a nuclear form (DUT-N), which are non-identical
isoforms produced by alternative splicing. The canonical form in UniProt is DUT-M.
The N-terminal region of DUT-M contains an arginine-rich, 69-residue mitochondrial
targeting sequence that is not found in the DUT-N isoform. DUT-M is constitutively
expressed throughout the cell cycle, but DUT-N expression is tightly regulated to
coincide with the cessation of nuclear DNA replication. (OMIM and UniProt);
