NCIt definition : Collagen alpha-1(V) chain (1838 aa, 184 kDa) is encoded by the human COL5A1 gene. This protein plays a role in the development and structural integrity of connective tissues.;

NCIt note : Collagen alpha-1(V) chain is a constituent of type V collagen fibrils. Type V fibrillar collagen has several forms, the most common form is a trimer comprised of two collage alpha-1(V) chains and one alpha-2(V) chain. A placental form is a heterotrimer containing one alpha-1(V) chain, one alpha-2(V) chain, and one alpha-3(V) chain. In rare instances type V collage is found as homotrimer comprised of three alpha-1(V) chains. (OMIM and UniProt);
