Preferred Label : Cefotiam Hexetil Hydrochloride;
NCIt synonyms : Cefotiam Hexetil HCl; 5-Thia-1-azabicyclo(4.2.0)oct-2-ene-2-carboxylic acid, 7-(((2-amino-4-thiazolyl)acetyl)amino)-3-(((1-(2-(dimethylamino)ethyl)-1H-tetrazol-5-yl)thio)methyl)-8-oxo-,1-(((cyclohexyloxy)carbonyl)oxy)ethyl
Ester, Dihydrochloride, (6R-(6-alpha,7-beta))-; CTM-HE Hydrochloride;
NCIt definition : The hydrochloride salt of the ester prodrug of cefotiam, a semi-synthetic, beta-lactam
cephalosporin antibiotic, with antibacterial activity. After administration of cefotiam
hexetil the ester bond is cleaved, releasing active cefotiam. Cefotiam binds to penicillin-binding
proteins (PBPs), transpeptidases that are responsible for crosslinking of peptidoglycan.
By preventing crosslinking of peptidoglycan, cell wall integrity is lost and cell
wall synthesis is halted.;
