Preferred Label : BCAR3 wt Allele;
NCIt synonyms : NSP2; SH2D3B; Breast Cancer Anti-Estrogen Resistance 3 wt Allele;
NCIt definition : Human BCAR3 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 1p22.1 and is approximately
285 kb in length. This allele, which encodes breast cancer anti-estrogen resistance
protein 3, plays a role in cellular proliferation and tyrosine kinase signal transduction.;
NCIt note : Human BCAR3 Gene encodes a 92 kD 825-amino acid protein that contains a putative SH2
domain, a hallmark of tyrosine kinase signaling molecules, and sequences homologous
to CDC48 (Yeast). Abundant expression of a 3.4 kb transcript is seen in heart, placenta,
skeletal muscle, spleen, prostate, testis, ovary, small intestine, colon, fetal kidney,
and several cancer cell lines, but not in nonmalignant breast tissue. A 6 kb transcript
is also detected in skeletal muscle and heart. NSP2 induces anti-estrogen resistance
in estrogen-dependent breast tumors. BRCA3 was identified in the search for genes
involved in the development of estrogen resistance. The gene encodes a component of
intracellular signal transduction that causes estrogen-independent proliferation in
human breast cancer cells.;
