" /> MAFG wt Allele - CISMeF

Preferred Label : MAFG wt Allele;

NCIt synonyms : MAFG; v-MAF Musculoaponeurotic Fibrosarcoma Oncogene Homolog G (Avian) Gene; MAF bZIP Transcription Factor G wt Allele;

NCIt definition : Human MAFG wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 17q25.3 and is approximately 9 kb in length. This allele, which encodes transcription factor MafG protein, plays a role in the modulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II.;

NCIt note : The MAFG gene product lacks a putative transactivation domain and behaves as a transcriptional repressor in a homodimer. However, it seems to serve as a transcriptional activator by dimerizing with other (usually larger) basic-zipper proteins and recruiting them to specific DNA-binding sites. Small Maf proteins heterodimerize with Fos and may act as competitive repressors of the NF-E2 transcription factor. Activates globin gene expression when associated with NF-E2 (GeneCards).;
