NCIt definition : Human FABP2 wild-type allele is located within 4q28-q31 and is approximately 5 kb
in length. This allele, which encodes fatty acid-binding protein, intestinal, is involved
in the intracellular transport of long-chain fatty acids and acyl-CoA esters. The
allele may also play a role in the modulation of cellular growth and proliferation.;
NCIt note : A polymorphism in the FABP2 gene encodes Fatty acid-binding protein, intestinal Ala55Thr.
The Thr-55 allele (29% of the population) has a 2-fold greater affinity for long-chain
fatty acids than the Ala-55 allele (71%). Thr-55 is associated with increased fat
oxidation and insulin resistance. (UniProt);
