The allele may also play a role in the modulation of cellular growth and proliferation.;

NCIt note : A polymorphism in the FABP2 gene encodes Fatty acid-binding protein, intestinal Ala55Thr. The Thr-55 allele (29% of the population) has a 2-fold greater affinity for long-chain fatty acids than the Ala-55 allele (71%). Thr-55 is associated with increased fat oxidation and insulin resistance. (UniProt);
