NCIt definition : Human LATS2 wild-type allele is located within 13q11-q12 and is approximately 87 kb
in length. This allele, which encodes serine/threonine-protein kinase LATS2 protein,
is involved in centrosome duplication and the maintenance of mitotic fidelity. Down-regulation
of LATS1 gene expression by promoter hypermethylation is associated with an aggressive
phenotype in breast cancer.;
NCIt note : The LATS2 gene is expressed in many tissues, although the highest levels of gene products
are detected in the heart and skeletal muscle. This gene produces two RNA transcript
variants via alternative splicing, which are approximately 3.8 kb and 5.8 kb in length.
The shorter of the two transcripts is only expressed in the testis. Serine/threonine-protein
kinase LATS2 protein is a negative regulator of the G1/S transition. It is also involved
in the inhibition of androgen receptor function.;
