NCIt definition : Human NMT2 wild-type allele is located within 10p13 and is approximately 61 kb in
length. This allele, which encodes glycylpeptide N-tetradecanoyltransferase 2 protein,
plays a role in the N-terminal myristoylation of many signaling proteins. The NMT
gene is overexpressed in several types of cancer including brain, colorectal and gall
bladder tumors.;
NCIt note : N-terminal myristoylation of proteins plays a putative role in carcinogenesis. Since
NMT2 gene expression is induced by dioxin, this gene may be involved in the mechanism
of dioxin carcinogenicity.;
