NCIt definition : Human CDKN2C wild-type allele is located within 1p32 and is approximately 14 kb in
length. This allele, which encodes cyclin-dependent kinase 4 inhibitor C protein,
is involved in cellular growth regulation and progression from the G1 phase of the
cell cycle.;
NCIt note : Inactivation of CDKN2C by point mutations may contribute to deregulated growth control
in certain cell lines and/or tumors. Knockout mice studies suggested that the gene
may be involved in regulating spermatogenesis, as well as in suppressing tumorigenesis.
Two alternatively spliced transcript variants of this gene, which encode an identical
protein, have been reported.;
