NCIt definition : Human BCL2L11 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 2q13 and is approximately 40 kb in length. This allele, which encodes Bcl-2-like protein 11, is an apoptotic activator and plays a role in neuronal and lymphocyte apoptosis.;

NCIt note : BCL2L11has been shown to interact with other members of the BCL-2 protein family, including BCL2, BCL2L1/BCL-X(L), and MCL1, and act as an apoptotic activator. Transgenic studies of the mouse counterpart suggested that this gene functions as an essential initiator of the apoptosis in thymocyte-negative selection and eight alternatively spliced transcript variants of this gene have been reported.;
