stromal cells proliferate and respond to the cyclic variations of estrogen and progesterone.
These cells produce growth factors and hormones that mediate the proliferative response
of epithelial cells to the steroid hormones estrogen and progesterone. In response
to embryo implantation, endometrial stromal cells accumulate lipid and glycogen.;
