Lamivudine is phosphorylated intracellularly to its active 5'-triphosphate metabolite,
lamivudine triphosphate (L-TP); zidovudine is phosphorylated to its active 5'-triphosphate
metabolite, zidovudine triphosphate (ZDV-TP). These active metabolites inhibit human
immunodeficiency virus (HIV) viral reverse transcriptase (RT) by incorporating into
