NCIt definition : NADH-cytochrome b5 reductase 3 (301 aa, 34 kDa) is encoded by the human CYB5R3 gene.
This protein plays a role in methemoglobin reduction, cholesterol synthesis and desaturation
and elongation of fatty acids.;
NCIt note : NADH-cytochrome b5 reductase 3 is expressed as at least 3 isoforms due to alternative
promoter usage and alternative splicing. This protein is expressed as endoplasmic
reticulum or outer mitochondrial membrane-bound form in somatic cells and a cytoplasmic
form in erythrocytes. The cytoplasmic form originates from an erythroid-specific promoter
and is missing the N-terminal myristylation consensus sequence. (OMIM and UniProt);
